Fall in Vail – There’s a well-known saying about transplants in the mountains of Colorado – “You come for the winters, but stay for the summers.” I am absolutely one of those people. I like skiing, but I LOVE the summers here so much more. And one of the best things about summer is that it leads into fall, which is in a very close second place for me. As much as I love the summers, fall in Vail is hands-down the most beautiful time of the year in the mountains and for photography, it really doesn’t get much better as it brings about the clash of the seasons – A newly white-coated landscape combined with the colorful changing of the Aspen leaves can’t be beat.
For the past few years, I’ve been traveling a lot each fall. This year, I finally stuck around…
A Socked-in Sunrise at Piney Lake

Vail’s Iconic North Trail
I had a new camera arrive in the mail around 3p.m., just in time to race up the North Trail for this unreal sunset. Still one of the best I’ve ever seen in Colorado.
Another evening up the east side of the North Trail. Less color in the sky and leaves, but still pretty damn nice.
An unreal sunrise at Piney Lake
I actually almost turned around to go back to bed when I got off the highway in Vail. I’m pretty stoked that I didn’t.
