Thailand Land of Smiles
Thailand, the Land of Smiles
November 2, 2012

From the teeming and hectic metropolis of Bangkok, to post-card perfect beaches and soaring limestone islands, to the rural heartland of rice paddies, and on to the mountainous tropical jungles of the north, the Kingdom of Thailand simply radiates beauty. And in addition to the scenery, the people are incredibly friendly and welcoming, the food is notoriously amazing, and in general, it’s an inexpensive country to visit.

Thailand is one of the most popular travel destinations in the world and for many travelers, the “land of smiles” tends to be their first foray into Southeast Asia. With the beautiful scenery and warm and welcoming culture, that first trip then becomes the first of many to the region…

That was exactly the case with me. In 2012, as I was getting serious about my photography journey, I ended up in Thailand for a week before moving on to Laos and Vietnam. In looking back, this trip was absolutely the one that began my addiction

“Friendly and food-obsessed, hedonistic and historic, cultured and curious, Thailand temps visitors with a smile as golden as the country’s glittering temples and tropical beaches.” (Lonely Planet)

The storms were so nasty that I actually just debated about hanging out through sunset and getting to bed early, but I just really wanted a great shot of Grand Prismatic Hot Spring from the main overlook. Since it was my last night, I figured I had to try… It was one of just those nights that I knew I it was about to be a complete bust of a shoot. OR, maybe, just maybe the sky would go completely epic and surprise me.
